Peritoneal dialysis effluent miR-21 and miR-589 levels correlate with longitudinal change in peritoneal transport characteristics

miR-21 and miR-589 levels in peritoneal dialysis effluent showed consistently significant relation with peritoneal transport. Since these two targets are involved in the regulation of cyclooxygenase expression, our result suggests that these miRNAs may affect peritoneal transport via the prostaglandin pathway. Further studies are needed to determine the role of serial monitoring of miRNA in PD effluent.
