Mixed oxide-covered mesh electrodes containing nickel and cobalt (Ni(x)Co(1 − x)Oy) prepared by thermal decomposition using the slow cooling rate method were supported on a stainless-steel fine-mesh support aiming for environmental applications in SPE filter-press cells.

The overpotential for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) obtained in electrolyte-free water strongly depends on the oxide composition (Co and Ni contents).

The stability tests carried out during electrolysis of the electrolyte-free water using an SPE filter-press cell revealed that the Ni(x)Co(1 − x)Oy mixed oxide electrodes are more stable in acidic conditions than pure oxides (e.g., NiO and Co3O4).
