Factors affecting greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from cultivated peatlands are diverse and difficult to control. Water table level influence GHG emission, but water table management can be difficult to use as a method for controlling GHG emissions especially in boreal climate. There is no obvious relationship between GHG emission rates and crop type, tillage intensity or fertilization rates. Cultivated peatlands should be managed in such a way as to ensure a maximum return for each CO2 equivalent emitted On wet sites, biomass cultivation (paludiculture) is an option for after use.
