Different tools for modeling fixed-bed biofilm reactors were evaluated. Models performance was validated with experimental measurements inside the biofilm. Hydrodynamic behavior in bulk phase should be considered for accurately modeling. CFD techniques are suitable to model rigorously fixed-bed bioreactors performance. CFD models describe accurately mass transfer phenomena in fixed-bed bioreactors.
