Barite and wollastonite were used as thickening agents to produce A356 alloy foams. A356 alloy foams showed a good combination of structural and mechanical properties. The foam obtained with barite showed the highest energy absorption efficiency. Barite is a potential thickening agent in the foaming process via melt route.
