Fen ditches release greenhouse gases (GHGs) to the atmosphere, but data is lacking. We measure dynamics of GHGs in ditches in three fens. All ditches emitted CO2 and N2O, but emissions of CH4 were particularly large. There was considerable spatial and temporal variation in greenhouse gas dynamics. Fen ditches are important contributors to landscape-scale GHG emissions.
