Clear and SERS-active gold nanopopcorn are synthesized under mild condition without any surfactants. The size of the gold nanopopcorn is controllable by tuning the amount of reducing agents. The developed sensor system can be used for rapid, on-field sensing of chlorpyrifos in food.
