The effect of glaze firings on four ceramics for hard machining was investigated. The same cracks were examined, before and after firing, to verify the healing process. Extended glaze (EG) provided greater crack healing than conventional glaze firing. Three of the tested ceramics presented acceptable color changes after EG.
