Numerical predictions and experimental verification of Li-O2 battery capacity limits for cathodes with spherical conductors and solid electrolytes

The discharge of a Li-O2 cell was modeled by the moving boundary technique in 2-D.

We verified the model experimentally by Li-O2 batteries with a polymer electrolyte.

Simulation predicted a maximum capacity of a non-aqueous cell as 990 mAh g−1cathode.

Experimentally, we achieved a capacity of 900 mAh g−1cathode.
