Functional brain development was studied using 4 quantitative MRI techniques.

CBF, OEF and CMRO2 were assessed at baseline and during working memory task.

Resting CBF and CMRO2 showed an age related decline while global OEF was stable.

Working memory induced relative CMRO2 change declines with age in sub-regions.

Brain may become more “energy efficient” with age during development.
