Diffusion tensor imaging used to examine white matter in congenitally deaf and hearing adults. Semiautomatic regions of interest used to quantify microstructural differences in auditory regions. Measures fractional anisotropy, radial diffusivity, axial diffusivity, and white matter volume. Tests for group differences in hemispheric asymmetry in white matter microstructure. The predominant pattern is bilateral reductions in fractional anisotropy in auditory regions.
