A customized tandem cryo ion trap instrument enables us to investigate ligand stabilized tetra nuclear cobalt complexes when trapped as individual anions under cryo conditions. We obtain well resolved (3 cm−1) IR-MPD spectra, and DFT calculations identify vibrations and spin states, opening a route towards the characterization of unsaturated complexes void of environmental interferences.
