Effect of the transient energy input on thermodynamic performance of passive water-in-glass evacuated tube solar water heaters

Transient CFD simulations of solar heater were used for comprehensive thermodynamic analysis. Thermal stratification is strongly dependent on collector tilt, tube’s opening location and cumulated energy. Energy input time distribution showed weak influence on thermodynamic performance. Internal irreversibility represents less than 10% of overall irreversibility. Stratification at low tilt angles was found as good as those obtained in active systems with stratification promoters.
