A. melanogenum 9-1 could produce more heavy oils from inulin than from glucose. The transformant 88 could produce high level of inulinase (70.8 U ml−1). Most of the secreted heavy oils were bioalkanes, the renewable fuel. Alkanes could be produced from inulin, one of the renewable sugars.
