Nucleation process of Mg phase in MgH2 thin film during desorption was investigated. Size, shape and concentration of Mg phase nuclei change due to introduced defects. Colour and brightness change during desorption and before Mg nucleation is detected. Colour changes due to appearance of H-vacancy band in energy gap.
