Effect of mixing and undercooling level on the onset of ice scaling was studied. For ΔT < 2 °C, the impact of mixing on tind was negligible. ΔT = 3–4 °C and moderate mixing, i.e., Re > 21,000 provided long scale-free operation. Hydrodynamic conditions near the lowest temperature zones were studied by CFD.
