Size effect of calcium-humic acid non-rigid complexes on the fouling behaviors in nanofiltration: An LA-ICP-MS study

A critical size of Ca-HA complexes at 400–500 nm is reported for the initial flux decline to rebound. Transition from cake formation to intermediate blocking in nanofilter fouling was observed. The influence of charge in Ca-HA complexes and membrane surfaces is investigated. The Hermia model is proven valid for the fouling behaviors caused by non-rigid colloids.
