Effects of visual obstruction, prey resources, and satiety on bird use of simulated airport grasslands

Grassland birds can pose hazards to aviation safety. Visually-obstructive vegetation and control of food resources are advised as deterrents. An empirical test of a management framework was conducted using captive birds. Brown-headed cowbirds selected against visually obstructive vegetation. Unsated birds, however, periodically sampled visually obstructive plots.
