Protein-energy wasting (PEW) is increasing and a strong predictor of adverse outcomes in chronic kidney disease (CKD). We hypothesized that high serum adiponectin (ADPN) levels reflect PEW in predialysis CKD. Our results supported that high serum ADPN is independently associated with PEW and closely associated with serum urine creatinine excretion as indirect measure of muscle mass.
