Skin transcriptomic responses to lice-infection give increased antimicrobial and anti-parasitic responses. Scaleless and scaled skin show significant differences in immune gene expression prior to infection. MHC class II+ cells are evenly distributed in epidermis while CD8α+ and Mx+ cells are found apical to stratum basale. Lice infection resulted in an increase of CD8α+ cells in skin.
