Oil palm–community conflict occurrence was widespread in Kalimantan (187 villages). Spatial patterns of conflict varied according to the differing types of conflict. Forest-dependent communities were more likely to oppose oil palm establishment. Opposition from forest-dependents' related to likely livelihoods/environment impacts. Conflicts in transformed areas were associated with differing conflict types.
