22 isolates analysed for mutations in inlA leading to premature stop codons (PMSCs). Three food-associated and one clinical isolates presented PMSCs in inlA. Isolates with PMSCs in inlA showed reduced invasion efficiency in Caco-2 cell line. One clinical isolate showed attenuated invasion phenotype but a full-length InlA.
