The chicken Sox10E1 enhancer is active in migrating trunk neural crest and the otic vesicle. Two Sox binding sites are critical for enhancer activity in both tissues. Knockdown of Sox8 and Sox5 reduces neural crest specific Sox10E1 reporter activity. Sox5 occupies the Sox10E1 enhancer in the trunk. Sox5 and Sox8 can physically interact with each other.
