Synthesis and sintering of nano-sized forsterite prepared by short mechanochemical activation process

New reagent compounds were introduced for mechanochemical synthesis of nano-forsterite.

A short mechanochemical method was suggested for the production of Mg2SiO4.

The single phase powder was found to consist mainly of particles smaller than 60 nm.

Nano-forsterite powder with nearly spherical morphology sintered to 89.5% theoretical density.

A homogeneous single-phase microstructure was produced by sintering sample at 1500 °C/2 h.
