We present for the first time the controllable synthesis of carbon nanocoil–carbon microcoil hybrid materials. Both direct growth of CNCs on CMC surface and simultaneous synthesis of CNCs with CMCs were observed. The number of CNCs around the CMCs increased with increasing number of SF6 on/off cycles. We proposed the growth mode of the CNC-CMC hybrid materials
