Gonadotropin-releasing hormone neurons are the target of microcystin-LR. Four organic anion transporting polypeptides are expressed in Gonadotropin-releasing hormone neurons at the mRNA level. Organic anion transporting polypeptides 1a5 may play an important role in the toxic effect of microcystin-LR on Gonadotropin-releasing hormone neurons.
