Carbonates affect lime stabilization of clay-rich, marly soils. Fast but limited transformation of clay minerals into CSH is achieved. Clay particle aggregation by CSH is the main mechanism in soil stabilization. CSH carbonation and clay particle disaggregation affect long-term stabilization.
