Ultraviolet germicidal coil cleaning technology used in HVAC systems to decrease fouling is investigated. Presence of moisture on cooling coil fins affected the efficacy of UV cleaning for improved heat transfer. Heat transfer effectiveness improved by 3–7% with UV during condensing conditions. UV did not significantly affect pressure drop across the coil.
