Ground source heat exchangers need better models to account for surface effects. Simple heat transfer model in the ground using accessible weather data is proposed. Soil temperature is well predicted for the first 1.5 m below the ground surface. Surface cover and site-specific conditions are necessary to predict soil temperature.
