Versatile conjugated small molecules bearing cyanopyridone core were synthesized. Solvatochromic studies were conducted in seven organic solvents. Lippert-Mataga, Kamlet-Taft and Catalan solvent scales were used for determination of solute-solvent interactions. Synthesized conjugated small molecules possess low lying HOMO energy levels.
