Cd0.2Zn0.8S@UiO-66-NH2 nanocomposites were synthesized by a solvothermal method.

The obtained composites exhibited excellent photocatalytic activity and stability.

A H2 production rate of 5846.5 μmol h−1 g−1 was obtained over the optimal catalyst.

The optimal catalyst also showed a CH3OH production rate of 6.8 μmol h−1 g−1.

An efficient charge separation and transfer was observed in the composites.
