NMR study of hydroxy and amide protons in hyaluronan polymers

Hydroxy and amide protons of hyaluronan polymers were studied by NMR spectroscopy. Transient hydrogen bonds were confirmed over the glycosidic linkages of hyaluronan. No direct inter-chain interactions involving hydroxy protons were found. The interior of a hyaluronan oligosaccharide represents well the polymer structure. NOEs suggested a different orientation of the amide proton in the polymer.
