Modulation of Neuronal Activity in the Motor Thalamus during GPi-DBS in the MPTP Nonhuman Primate Model of Parkinson's Disease

GPi DBS resulted in both discharge rate and pattern changes in the motor thalamus. Pattern changes included changes in the structure of bursts and increased gamma activity and entrainment to DBS. The activity of thalamic neurons was regularized secondary to the pattern changes. The different effects of GPi vs STN DBS on the motor thalamus likely reflect the involvement of different anatomical pathways.
