The peridotites of the Collo ultramafic rocks are mainly lherzolite, but dunites may occur rarely. Mineral and whole rock chemistry indicate that these ultramafic rocks are highly magnesian and belong to Alpine-type peridotites. Oxygen isotope data show the derivation of the Collo ultramafic rocks from a mantle source; they also show the effect of serpentinization processes through high temperature metasomatic fluids.
