Objective

To prepare a practical guide with the principal drugs routinely administered enterally, where the pharmaceutical presentation must not be altered, the alternatives available in our field, as well as the recommendations needed to ensure pharmacotherapeutical efficiency and to improve daily practice

Method

For the preparation of this guide, the most frequently prescribed drugs that were administered enterally or by ostomy and required special precautions in their administration were identified from the drugs included in the pharmacotherapeutic guides of the Albacete University Hospital Complex, Spain (Complejo Hospitalario Universitario de Albacete).

Results

A rapid guide is available to resolve the day to day doubts that arise on the enteral administration of drugs.

Discussion

The nursing professional not only has to know the administration technique of the drugs, but also has to know the drugs and their interactions, since their efficacy largely depends on their correct administration.
