Physicochemical transformation of carboxymethyl cellulose-coated zero-valent iron nanoparticles (nZVI) in simulated groundwater under anaerobic conditions

The aging product of nZVI and CMC-nZVI in simulated groundwater were investigated. Both structure and composition of the aging products transformed over time. Different types of corrosion products were formed for bare nZVI and CMC-nZVI. Groundwater ions were involved in the formation of secondary minerals with Fe aging. CMC could slow down the aging rate of nZVI and alter the species transformation.
