A series of 16 OPVs with electron-donating (ED) and electron-withdrawing (EW) groups were synthesized by the Heck reaction. A novel OPV, which is difficult to obtain by most common synthetic methodologies, is reported here. The stereoselectivity to trans-trans configuration of the vinyl bonds in the OPVs was confirmed. Optical study by UV-vis and fluorescence spectroscopies allows one to determine structure-property relationships.
