PFOS exposures decreased the size of beta cell mass in the primary Islet of Langerhans in the zebrafish embryo. PFOS increased islet malformations and shortened pancreas length, recapitulating defects associated with diabetes in humans. Abnormal pancreas development is a previously unidentified hazard of developmental PFOS exposures.
