Heat transfer during quenching of high temperature surface by the falling cryogenic liquid film

The peculiarities of heat transfer during quenching of hot copper plate by the falling liquid nitrogen film were studied. An anomalous behavior of heat transfer in the vicinity of the quench front has been found. Heat transfer during quenching is significantly higher than at the quasi-stationary conditions. The quench front incipience occurs after lowering the surface temperature to the thermodynamic limit of liquid superheat. Dynamic pattern of running quench front, obtained numerically, correlates well with the observed in the experiment.
