The sliding friction properties between wire ropes under different parameters were revealed. The contact load has little effect on coefficient of friction and the maximum value is about 0.61. The sliding friction heating-up of ropes was analyzed by thermal infrared imager. Increasing contact load and amplitude will accelerate the wear of wire rope. The wear mechanisms of wire rope include abrasive wear, adhesive wear and fatigue wear.
