An NAD(P)H-dependent carbonyl reductase (CR) from a hyperthermophilic archaeon was successfully isolated and characterized.

10">The dimeric structure of the thermostable CR was determined using the molecular replacement method at a 2.09 Å resolution in the presence of NADPH.

This is the first description of an archaeal CR and the structural characteristics of highly thermostable CR.
