Superoxide is the major product of complex II generated ROS. Only dicarboxylate-free reduced complex II reacts with oxygen. Iron-sulfur cluster is the donor for one-electron reduction of oxygen. Succinate:ubiquinone reductase proceeds via to ping-pong mechanism. Communication between the dicarboxylate- and ubiquinone binding sites is proposed.
