A coupled experimental-modeling analyses of heat transfer in large scale biomaterials during vitrification cryopreservation was successfully developed. Thermal conductivities of VS55 and the VS55-perfused porcine hepatic tissue at −196 to 37 °C were measured. The convective heat transfer coefficients on the outer surface of a cryovial plunged into liquid nitrogen were determined with an inverse problem method. The heat transfer in ex-vivo VS55-perfused porcine hepatic tissue being plunged in LN​2​ for vitreous cryopreservation was precisely modelled.
