Inhibition of prenylation have non-overlapping and specific effects on insulin-responsive genes.

Inhibition of GGTase-I or FTase had no effect on the insulin-induced initiation/elongation of the β-actin and EGR1 genes.

Initiation/elongation of c-fos and Pip92 mRNAs were more insulin sensitive upon pre-treatment only with the GGTase inhibitor.

HSP60 gene initiation/elongation was more insulin sensitive upon pre-treatment only with the FTase inhibitor.

Inhibition of prenylation may regulate genes via the timing/activity of insulin-induced ERK and/or other MAPK pathways.
