Nonlinear optical properties of whitlockite-type compounds can be designed and increased by an order of magnitude. Nonlinear optical activity of Ca9.5–1.5xBixCd(VO4)7 increases with increasing Bi3+ content. The reversible ferroelectric phase transition was observed in the range from 1331 K to 1055 K.
