Plasma microRNAs have advantages over conventional biomarkers for cardiac injuries. There is a strong correlation between plasma miR-499 and cTnI in CABG patients. A strong correlation exists between plasma miR-126 and uric acid in CABG patients. Release of miR-499 and miR-126 depends on myocardial and endothelial damage, respectively. The miRNA signature may reflect response to cardiac medications or interventions.
