Heme is involved in the regulation of various critical processes in bacteria. Mechanisms for heme-regulated processes in bacteria are highly diverse. Heme transiently binds to proteins and can induce structural changes in heme-regulated proteins. Heme-regulated processes display promising targets for the development of antibacterial drugs.
