Alkyl-substituted BODIPYs 1–5 exhibit intense (lgε 4.60–5.00) chromophoric properties. BODIPYs 1–5 are effective fluorophores with fluorescence quantum yield, reaching 100%. Fluorescence quantum yield of BODIPYs 1–5 weakly depends on the solvent polarity. Introduction of alkyl substituents in the 2,6-positions leads to red shifts (22–29 nm) in spectra. Alkyl substituents in the 2,6-positions not have negative effect on quantum yield of 1–5.
