Altered cortisol responses to stress are common in depressed youth. However, the strength and direction of cortisol responses are highly variable. Relations between depressive symptom profiles and cortisol responses were examined. Affective symptoms predicted higher cortisol reactivity and more rapid recovery. Neurovegetative symptoms predicted lower cortisol reactivity and slower recovery.
