IL-1β upregulated during the early stages after chronic cerebral hypoperfusion. IL-1β inhibits white matter repair and functional recovery via IL-1R1. IL-1β impedes OPC recruitment via IL-1R1. OPC recruitment but not proliferation is critical for recovery after hypoperfusion.
